P/ART 13, the first event of its kind in Hamburg, took place from the 19th to the 22nd of September 2013 in an abandoned warehouse on the 'Kolbenhofgelände' in the neighborhood Bahrenfeld in Hamburg. The specifically designed architecture of the exhibition hall consisted of semi-transparent cubicles, enclosing the 71 artists and their works. Close to 3,000 visitors came to see the extensive installations, paintings, photographs and videos, and to partake in the supporting program consisting of performances and discussions.
Artists were able to apply for the P/ART 13 through an application form available on our website. Our jury, consisting of seven members, picked the 71 artists from around 400 applications, which we received from both national and international artists in July 2013. The jury, appointed by the organizers, was an independent body and its members active in the journalistic, academic, economic and curatoric sectors.

Elaborate exhibition hall architecture was engineered on 2,000m². Seven exhibition cubicles were created out of scaffolding, which housed the majority of the artworks. In this way, the P/ART’s concept of open space was embedded in the modular and transparent structures, which simultaneously corresponds to the historic purpose of the 'Kolbenfabrik'.
In close cooperation with the artists, we were able to create a location in which around 500 pieces of art were exhibited. The area was complemented with cabinets, an outdoor area, intermediate areas and additional rooms.
The P/ART received positive reviews and articles written in regional and national TV-, Radio-, Print and Online-Media. Among others: Hamburger Morgenpost, Hamburger Abendblatt, art-Magazin, Focus, Die Welt, NDR Kultur und NDR Hamburg.
'A group of young art experts, who call themselves a collective, have established an art fair in Bahrenfeld, which is catapulting the old fashioned idea of a producers gallery into the 21st century. While gallerists keep around 50% of the profit when selling a piece of art, the initiators of P/ART only charge 15% as an allowance for expenses, making the enterprise non-profit. How refreshing to see something like this once again!'
Die Welt, 06.03.14
'A Mecca for art enthusiasts!'
Hamburger Morgenpost, 03.03.14
'While everyone in Berlin is focusing on the hippest galleries and largest museums, the Producers Artfair in Hamburg provides a stage for the artists themselves'
art Magazin, 12.03.14
A catalogue, with a circulation of 500 copies, was available for purchase during the P/ART. In addition to the extensive artist overviews, a discursive chapter with contributions from Tobias Muno, Rosali Wiesheu, Diedrich Diederichsen and Tilman Kriesel was integrated to compliment the catalogue. The articles were focused on the subject of the appreciation of art, in accordance with the main topic of the P/ART 2013 fair.
